Harvest Park is a Unified Champion School!
This is a title given to a school by Special Olympics of Northern California. To qualify for this honor, a school has to meet one component in each of three areas.
- For the Unified Sports component, our school qualifies because Ms. Johnson has been taking a Unified team to the Special Olympics competitions. A Unified team includes her students and students from the General Education population.
- Under the Inclusive Youth Leadership component, our school qualified through Ms. Johnson's Game Buddies Program and her Patriot Pal Club. Both of these groups include her students and students from the General Education classes.
- The last component that Harvest Park has qualified for is the Whole School Involvement. HPMS qualified for this component since Ms. Johnson has given 5 days of Ability Awareness Training with 5-morning block classes and 5-afternoon block classes. Harvest Park has also met this qualification by the Wheelchair Foundation week that our Leadership sponsors in March and the Ability Awareness that they do that week.
It is an honor that Harvest Park is receiving from Special Olympics of Northern California. Congratulations to Ms. Johnson, those involved in her many programs, and the entire Harvest Park Middle School community!
