AVID Trip to SJSU

Some highlights of the tour included the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library, nine stories of learning opportunity shared with the City of San Jose. They viewed the academic buildings to see the diverse range of disciplines offered at SJSU,  including the College of Business, College of Engineering, and College of Humanities and the Arts.  Of great interest to students was the strong athletic program that SJSU has to offer. Although they didn’t make it over to the football stadium, they did view the Event Center, Aquatics Center, and even learned that the wrestling program is honored to have Yoshihiro Uchida, America’s first Olympic wrestling coach, helping to train college athletes…he is still working on the mat at age 103!  By far, the favorite location for AVID students seemed to be the Student Union where they took a break from the heat of the day to check out the various amenities available.  The day provided a quick snapshot of what awaits our 8th grade class a mere four years from now!
