HPMS Weekly Update 9/13/21

Principal’s Message to Families

Happy Monday!

Welcome to the 6th week of school.  This year is off to the races, and we mean that literally, as our 8th grade science classes have built mousetrap cars that zoomed around campus (mine is a work in progress, but I promise to share).  Dance performances abounded - they were amazing - and we are so proud of our students!  Shoutout to our PE teachers for all the great work.  We are also starting our tutorials programs.   We will be having math and ELA support after school from 3:15-4:15 pm starting next week, Sept 20th.  And if they need additional support, we have started mandatory study hall.  If you feel your student needs support in Math or ELA, please reach out to our counselors to sign up (Math will be on Mondays and Fridays from 3:15 - 4:15 pm, and ELA on Tuesdays/Thursdays during that same time frame). And finally, please fill out the community survey - LINK.  The feedback will help us to best support you and your student.

Covid Safety Information

Important Dates

COVID Protocols Update -

  1. Families will be contacted when their student has been in close contact (within 6 feet or less for 15 minutes or more). Mrs. Hurtado will be confirming vaccination status to clear students as quickly as possible.
    1. All students eligible for Modified Quarantine will be invited and able to test onsite at HP if their parent/guardian has given consent in Primary.Health (the online COVID testing platform we use).

  1. Per the County Guidance, we must notify the community when there is a positive case on campus.
  2. If you are sick, please stay home.

Masks - Neck Gators are not allowed for students to wear on PUSD campuses. Please make sure that students have a proper mask to wear that covers their mouth and nose at all times. Also make sure that your student has a spare mask in their backpack. We do have masks available for students in the front office.

Needs to Know

Tutorials have begun.  Starting September 20th, we will have math and ELA support after school.  Please reach out to your students counselor for more details.  Math - M/F and ELA - T/Th from 3:15-4:15 pm.

Access (Tuesdays & Thursdays) & FLEXISched: Students did a great job signing up for their first Access flexible periods. Students sign up on Wednesdays during Advisory class for the following Thursday and Tuesday. Students receive an email on Thursday morning with their schedule. Any issues can be sent via Support Desk ticket

MAP Assessment: Despite some technical hiccups, our students have nearly completed the MAP testing with makeups continuing this week. MAP family reports will be available after September 30, 2021.

Lunch time attendance - we are having students scan in so that we can know where they are in case we have to do contract tracing.  There is no penalty for not signing in.  This is entirely to promote safety and wellness.

Sports and clubs - The Alameda County released guidance on Friday regarding Extra-Curriculars including band, sports, and clubs. We are working on the protocols to put into place to make sure that we can have these events on campus. We are hoping to start clubs and sports in October. In preparation, we will have a club rush week in October. Mrs. Castro and Mrs. Hurtado will be setting up Access Sessions to help students with the paperwork beginning September 30.

Field Trips - At this time, field trips are not approved.

FRENCH classes -- We appreciate all French student families as we diligently work to fill our open French teaching position. We have a long-term sub, Ms. Lewin, in the class at this time who will be with us for some time. Please welcome her with kind support as she jumps in.  We are super excited!

PE clothes order was already done.  If you did not order, please reach out to your PE teacher.
